Great player and writer. I was a huge fan of XTC back in the 80s.

Sad(and embarrassed) to say,I never really got it with regards to XTC. Late bloomer in this case,I guess.

CM`s basslines are brilliant and,at this time,too advanced/technical for this 52 year old hobby-bass player.

I think "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead" is sublime. I`ve loved that song ever since catching the music video on MTV. (1992 ?).

Looking forward to exploring XTC`s music and CM`s bass work in more depth.Thanks for this thread!

Actually, it is indeed Moulding playing the MoS bassline but Andy did indeed write it:

Still having trouble finding that interview againthough. You have quoted the same one I believe. Gives some nice details on the Skylarking recording too.

Sorry for resuscitating this thread (although Mr. Moulding does deserve more recognition than he gets), but I see it mentioned here that he played an Ibanez Musician fretless. I'd always thought it was a fretless Pbass - can anyone corraoborate/confirm what kind of fretless he used on English Settlement?

Shamelessly reviving this thread. Gotta put in a word for Colin's bass line on "All of a Sudden (It's Too Late)," probably one of the best songs they wrote. And I've been chasing the tone of "Smartest Monkeys" for years. Genius.

That’s great news; last I heard he was so soured on the music business that he had gone into total seclusion, wouldn’t even talk to Partridge(who had made amends with Gregory). Chambers moved long ago to Australia.
