Double Bass Collapsing?

I bought a bass a couple weeks ago and, after my teacher's inspection of it, it seems that the top may be collapsing inward due to a manufacturing problem. The bottom carving of the left f-hole is bent, somewhat severely, inward. While there is no space between the top of the bass and the bridge, I still think there's a problem here. Do I need a different bass? I probably could easily exchange this one for another.

If it's sinking since you first saw it, yeah, get rid of it quick. You don't say whether your teacher approved it, or anything else about it. If it's a new bass, it sounds like a real cheapo. Do not trade it in for another one! Read the newbie links.

Not fun...If the top sinks too much, it will crack for sure. My first carved instrument had this problem. Lots of $$$'s to reshape the top and fit a new bar. Having one of the sides of the F-hole on the bass side a BIT lower is normal for any bass given the tension but an excessive difference is definitely not good at all. Sounds like the bar was improperly fitted. Either way, it shouldn't be your problem. I agree with Paul, take your money and run.

Get the money back, in full, immediately.

Look at another brand, not just a different bass within that brand.

Thanks for the info! I’m disappointed, but I’ll find another. It’s a beautiful bass, too, and not cheap enough for what’s happening to it.
