does anyone have experience playing mountain towns with original music that isn't jam or electro?

Not in the last 12 years. As far as playing bar gigs like that, I don't know that it's possible. The only way I could see it happening is if you have a reasonably big name and hook up with the organizations that produce concerts and special events. There are spring concerts, etc., that happen which can work out pretty well. I would look into Statebridge Amphitheater. Obviously not in the winter, but it's a great venue and they do support original music.

The Rico Theater was another place that was a possibility, but I don't know if it's still happening.

Hi fellow Colorado folk. I'm curious if anyone in the Boulder-ish to denver-ish area has any six strings that I could come over and see/play for 15 minutes or so. I have some research to do on what could be my neck bass and am finding it difficult to find many 6 strings in the area. Anyone able to help, please hit me up with a PM. I'd really appreciate it.

Much thanks for an odd sounding request,

That's a nice damned table you made there.

How do y'all think the new recreational liberties 'round these parts will affect gig availability?

I don't know, since liberties seem to have been taken prior to the change in the law in many places I play, but it does mean I'm going to be extra careful driving home from my gigs. I get paranoid enough as it is driving home with all the aggressive drunks out there late night. Sometimes making that left onto 36 from I25 can be challenging at 3AM. About 3 weeks ago, I was within 15 feet of getting creamed by a car that sped through a red light on Colfax right in front of me. I don't think the new law will increase aggressiveness on the road, but I do think it might increase people spacing out behind the wheel. Be careful out there!

There is that. The Air Force has repeatedly expressed the zero-tolerance, so my concerns are second-hand.

Luckily for me, I'm a bedroom musician and don't go anywhere outside of normal family hours.

...woo, how exciting :help: ...

I live in Loveland and work near Boulder. I play only 6 strings. I have 4 of them with various string spacing, but none are super wide. Spacing at the bridge is from 16mm to 18mm. You might try contacting Scott Surine who makes amazing instruments if you can come up with the bucks!

Colorado peeps...trying to help out a friend and hoping y'all can help. Looking for a good, affordable studio for my friend's son's band to get some recording done. They're in the Grand Junction area, but can travel to Denver if need be. If you have info, please PM me. Thanks!!

I've been around TalkBass for a few years, but I didn't discover this thread until recently. Figured I should get a number and visit more often.

I live in Fort Collins, where I play in a sort of RB/rock/blues outfit called Lee Holiday and the Time Off, my first real gigging band, although we only play out about 20 times a year. I took up bass late in life (at 41) and have been playing 10 years. Wish I'd done it sooner.

Awesome..... Welcome to the club!!!

Does anyone know how Dan Basica is? He hasn't answered my e-mail.

He's in a lot of pain and very tired, Dr upped his pain meds this week. Not really able to get out of bed or move around much. I spent a couple of hours with him Tuesday, he's still in fairly good spirits. He probably won't be able to reply at the moment. If it's personal, I'm sure he's grateful for your thoughts. If it's anyway related to Premier Bass Guitars, please email me at [email protected].

When you talk to him again, please let him know we're all thinking about him.

Just a terrible thing to happen to such a great guy. Hope his pain and discomfort are being managed effectively. And we are definitely thinking of him and praying for Dan as well...

Hey Catanova, I don't know where you got your profile picture, but that was me more than once at that age (although that kid isn't going to get anywhere without accessing both sides of the outlet)! I loved making big sparks and discovered that a barrette made a great big bang and turned out all the lights. My parents weren't pleased, but then I showed a friend at school all about it using a piece of thick wire I fashioned for the occasion. Made the whole wing of the school go dark! I guess I was just getting ready for my adventures in taking apart tube amps.

Now that my son is getting nearer to that age, it's time to seal up all the outlets….

OK, back to your regularly scheduled Colorado bassness.
