Combination wireless

It would be convenient to have a wireless transmitter/receiver that would send your instrument signal to FOH and also receive monitor mix for IEM. This may already exist, and I am unaware. Currently, I have two units on my strap which makes this happen, but with twice the batteries and gear. Any manufacturer news?
 
Only in some (really one? Sennheiser Spectera) systems for high-end applications. If you were try to go one-off as a personal system or a small number for a band-owned rig, probably a good bit over $10k for one and $25k for a setup with 4 or 5 and you'd need to run laptop frequency management. Not something to look for to be coming to lower tier systems for various reasons.

Sure, in time, but there might be a bit more to it than consumer push. I don't at all know the technical ins, outs and hurdles, but it just doesn't seem likely that the availability of high-end systems (where a virtual need developed) means that next year we'll see everyone and their mother coming out with bi-directional wireless...Phenyx Pro Gemyni... But who knows? There could be some kind of breakthrough or chip advancement that's already happened that makes it possible. The desire for devices and cables is always there.

On the one hand, I don't get it...like imagine if cell phones were two pieces, separate receiver and transmitter units, that had to be kept a some physical distance to work. I'm sure someone would have gotten right on that. I guess finding out exactly what the technical hurdles are might give a clue as to the likely timeline.

The Spectera (at $10,000 for base station) does handle 32 in/outs.
Then there's the user paks (at $2,000 ea)
For a pro tour with a 5-piece band plus engineer, the $22,000 investment might well be worth it.
Note: the monitor engineer will need a pak to monitor the bands IEM mixes.
Unlikely we'll see that price point come down for a number of years to make it affordable for local bands.

I've been wireless for 15 yrs.. and the totl units have not come down much in price.

A nit 😁... "requires at least one DAD (digital antenna device)" $1600 for just the paddle. I'd guess there are probably other nick nacks needed for a complete system, and for a small/portable setup, if it was one engineer, not separate foh and monitor, I don't think that would do anything to help with frantic, grumpy sound guy stereotyping.
