Most definitely a big part of my life since the early 60's just prior to the Adam West TV show. AAMOF , even though I don't read the actual comics anymore, still actively collect super hero stuff like action figures, statues, games and movies, mostly Batman, but others as well, including most of the DC heroes and some Marvel as well (HULK SMASH!!!). My favorite coffee mugs have Batman logos. The Avatar I have on a few forums is a pic of my favorite Batman action figure, and my screen-name is "BatHead".

To me, comics fell apart significantly when Image comics started. I tried to get into their titles, but they had way too much mediocre material. A lot of artists from DC and Marvel defected to them so it got to a point where Image had all the great artists, but the characters and material were second-rate knock-offs of already existing Marvel and DC characters - with a few rare exceptions. Of course, they made amends with The Walking Dead, but the mid 90's or so marked the end of my comic book collecting.

Yep, the 90's kinda sucked. Everything had a variant cover. DC and especially Marvel would take any old crap comic and put a variant cover on it and the masses would drown in their own drool. Marvel almost went bankrupt. Image never did as much for me as it did for all of those creators looking for an outlet, but you have to hand it to Todd McFarlane for taking a huge share of the market. Dark Horse deserves more credit. Back in the 80's Dark Horse and Eclipse ruled.
But the late 90's/early 2000's had some really cool stuff. I mean really. It lasted a few years. Unfortunately nobody can pump out cool stuff forever. The last six years have been uneventful to me, DC totally rehashed their whole lineup and that just turned me off. Not to mention that if you wanted to keep up with the "Crisis" you would of had to spend probably $100 a month for about three years (exageration?? I dunno.).
So now if you want to see something cool you pretty much have to go Indy, but you have to swim through a sea of T&A to get to the cool stuff which actually exhibits writing skills.

I used to collect a lot of trade paperbacks. Mostly DC Vertigo stuff. I lost interest in collecting a few years ago, and I still haven't found anything compelling enough to purchase. The only part of my collection I haven't sold off is Transmetropolitan and Hellboy.

My brother and I both collected comics through the 80s. 95% Marvel. He always had the better taste, as far as collectability. He picked up the entire Claremont run of X-Men before they got staggeringly expensive, got in on the Punisher when it first came out, etc. I was getting into Marvel Two-in-One and Nova. *shrug*

The one I really like that they'll never make a movie for is the Vision. Maybe he'll get a cameo in an Avengers movie.

My all-time fave is the Hulk. Had the entire run from #102 to about #400, including the first ever appearance of Wolverine in #181 (well, #180, technically, and had that one too). Sold the lot when I moved to Germany, but don't really regret it. Picked up a subscription to Marvel online, that works out pretty nicely.

I collected pretty much all the usual DC and Marvel stuff in the late '70's to mid '80's. I went in the Navy in '84 and basically quit reading comics until after I got out. I wouldn't have gone back to buying them, but the Tick came out.
