did you "pay for services or goods"? if yes, you should have protection. even still, the Seller should at least acknowledge receipt of funds and promise a shipping date and Tracking Number, imo.
Things happen and I understand. It's life. I tend to get a little too excited.

it's normal, my friend. i recently got worried over a small, cheap item when the Seller was three days late with a Tracking Number, lol.

Normally I find you get a bunch of excuses as to your shipping delay, not a lack of communication. Even still, I wouldn't worry for at least a week, possibly longer, since Paypal covers your butt.
Some people wait for the money to completely clear PayPal's escrow before shipping. New(er) users/sellers have to wait longer.
Once on eBay, the seller waited over 2 weeks for the money to be deposited into his bank account. PayPal took my money and sent him the "buyer has paid, please ship", but because his was a new(er) account, money was kept in escrow. I sent him a notice after 1 week, and his response was basically "money hasn't cleared, and I don't have money to ship it until it does". It all was okay in the end, I didn't have a problem with the bass when it did eventually arrive, but kind of a nuisance.
But yeah, as you say, some communication would be nice.
