Compact Gigging Rig

Hi All,
I just joined a band that is wanting to do some R&B, Motown type stuff. Maybe some Delbert McClinton stuff as well. The pieces are drums, sax, two guitars, bass. The drummer is very dynamic and the sax player is a very talented cat. The problem is the two guitarist are usually a little louder than I am used to for this kinda stuff. The rig I am considering using is an Eden WTX-264 head and an Eden 12" cabinet. I will be using my Fender P-Bass with a Jazz neck. Do you think this rig can get it done? We will be playing small places usually, maybe 40-100 folks. If we play somewhere larger, backline is provided. Any opinions are welcome Thanks.

I also have a Warwick Corvette but I am thinking the P Bass is more what I need.

Nice looking kit! If you can swing a second cab, you'll be sitting pretty and still be portable, (those are fairly light)... I would always lean towards having too much and turning down instead of having to crank what I have to be heard... The difference between a single 1X12 and a pair is pretty pronounced, (to my ears anyway)

I played a gig with a blues band (guitar-keys-bass-drums) once with my 4-ohm EX112 powered by a GK MB200 (200 watts into 4 ohms), passive jazz bass. I found it lacking in volume. I think the speaker could have taken more power (need to try it with my MB Fusion 500) - but IMHO your best bet would be another 112 cab (assuming you have the 8 ohm version). Looks like they are going for only 250 bucks, so not too expensive (here in the USA anyway).

Another cab, for sure (I love that rig, btw). If you don't have roundwounds on the jazz, I'd go with some, just so you can cut through. I've played in similar settings with similar set-ups using a Carvin BX500 an eden 1x12 like yours and an old ampeg portabass 1X12 (which I hope to replace with another, matched eden). Worked well, and easy on the back.

I'be running flats myself. Chromes and pumping the highs and upper mids for cut through. Depends on the rounds of course but in general, the ringing is too high for the best frequency slot for me. This is all very subjective and also dependent on the rest of the musical setting, playing style, etc.

And another cab absolutely. It will help you no end to get a speaker up closer to your ears. It is also very true that with a volume control you can take too much rig, there really isn't anything to help too little...

I have been gigging a Genz shuttle 6.0 with a shuttle 12T cab for a couple of years now. I have an additional 1-12 cab, if needed. I have an Ampeg pf500 and a 2-10 also.

that said, it has all sufficed, inside gigs, outside gigs, big rooms with PA support, etc. I don't think my rig cares which bass I use, you just adjust it a little differently to accommodate. its easy to not realize how loud you are sometimes. I used to use A LOT more rig. I don't' miss it - I really don't. I think some people obsess over pedals, effects, rigs, etc.

Some of the best players I have met plug straight in, or use minimal shaping effects and control the output. one of them told me he plays his bass, not his rig. That always stuck with me.

Its a cool gig rig, portable. The thing is how will You feel on stage with it.
You can cut with mids on P bass, the 12" will do good sound. I have a 1X15" neodymium speaker with markbass F1, set up always on the the 1X15 flight case. Good, pronounced bass with sound closer to my ears level. If Your guitar players always play loud, You can talk about setting separate frequencies for guitars and bass, so that everyone is happy. But that would require a bit of understanding from both sides

I've used a Genz Shuttle 6.2 with a NEOX112T cab for years now. I use it when I'm either rehearsing or doing gigs outside my normal band (current band is ampless and all through FOH). This setup has always worked very well for me. I do own a NEOX212T cab but I haven't used it in about 4 years. I guess I was always saving it in case I need more sound but maybe I should think about selling it.
