IME, in Your budget such thing does not exist unless you're able to cut one hell of a deal.

Then it's not about the sub IMHO, it's about the BD or about the drummer.

Either get a bigger (better?) BD, or tell the drummer step on it a bit harder.

IME again, a decent 24" BD requires about 1KW +18" pro sub to increase the percieved volume (+3dB or a hair more). Not a lead-foot drummer either.

we play outside on the top deck.. plenty of room there.....

BUT our storage spot is VERY compact and small..

I installed kick port in drum, which actually made a decent difference.

Just looking for some BOOM to reach outside the dance area as well... if it doesnt exist we will just have to budget more $$$

Since the "Kick" in a kick drum falls into the 60-80Hz range a Yorkie LS200p (NX200p)will fit the bill, I had 2, and they were suprisingly loud. The only issue with them is the 6th order bandpass enclosure design tends to make it "one notey" and boomy, I doubt this would be an issue if only miking up a kick drum. the LS700p is a 2x10 version and it is louder albielarger and heavier. You should try to find a 200p and give it a try, they are so small that I could carry both at the same time, and fit both into the back seat of a 2 door Grand am.

I have an older model yorkville 2x10 powered sub that sounds pretty punchy but at times boomy and you can hear the 10's flubbing a little if you push em hard. But it works fine for small venues with lower ceilings. All those Metro subs are fine for small venues. ...Outdoors though on a boat deck - Id say you want at least a front ported 15", - (havnet heard the QSC 12's or the single 10" Elite Yorkie though - but I wouldnt spend $450 on a 10" subwoofer cabinet)

For a cheap fix:
In the past when we didnt want to haul our big 18 Yorkville subs to a gig and just want a little extra kick punch, we ran a kick mic into a crappy old 4 -channel peavey powered mixer ($75 used) and a junky 15" bass cabinet ($100) and it was pretty effective for less than $200 bucks. - just scoop out the mids and boost the lows on the mixer.

There was an american company called "dawn" that had a VERY killer sub/sattelite system... their sub pushed insane levels of sound for the weight/size....

If a speaker needs to be 12"+... why do headphones work?

I "believe" this company may have been gulped up by Kustom.

Poor comparison. Headphones are for extremely near field monitoring. Once off your ears, you hear NO bass! For 'Live' applications on a stage, I don't think a sub with a single 10" would suffice except maybe in a small club and the band isn't very loud. 4 of them together would probably work much better.

You're right... the speaker should be evaluated by specs and context

we added a trigger to the bass drum in my P&W band at church to get some kick in the PA. the drums are always too loud (like in many church bands), and I was sure that adding MORE drums was a bad idea. Well, with the kick in the PA, I was actually able to turn my bass down a bit as there is a much more forceful thump in the overall low end now. It makes my bass sound better and more articulate having the bass drum in the mix properly. As a consequence of me turning down some, our lead guitarist was able to turn down some as well. So by adding a bit of bass drum to the PA in a measured amount, we were able to not only improve the sound of the low end (both drums and bass IMO), we were able to lower the overall volume a bit so as not to continue blasting the old folks. YMMV.

I can't say enough good things about my Carvin powered sub. It is punchy and has never let me a down. A piece of gear that has made me money.

I do have the LsX (bedliner) version, but I think this is the same.

That and two powered 12's out front has been plenty for my cover bands. Outdoors or in.
