comparing 15" cabs....

I've got an Ampeg SVT15e with an Eminence 3015..... I don't give it much playtime, I typically go for my pair of Markbass NY121 cabs. Would a Markbass New York 151 give me much of anything (different/good/bad/ugly/anything) that I don't have already with my SVT-15e? NY151 is smaller.... not sure about weight, but I'd assume it's lighter too.

I play passive basses (#1 is a Lakland Decade) through either my Markbass LMT800 or an Ampeg PF800. Plenty of pedals... classic rock, dirty bass tones like Mr. Allen Woody is my usual tonal goal. NOT a hifi player.

Can anyone compare thoughts of the Markbass NY121 vs the NY151 cabs? In theory, I think I'd like to try them... but, I'm not sure if I'd gain much I don't already have with the 12's... other than just fun, new gear ($$$).

Im not sure how the 3015 works in your cab. But i have a 3015 in my ported cab. i think that it may be one of the LOUDEST 15s available.. It is a LOUD speaker .. Tonality is a different thing

Yeah, it's just not very "round" sounding...... maybe it needs break in time.

Bag End S15D is a pretty classic cabinet. Doesn't handle a ton of wattage, but they sound good. Also the Schroeder 15L is a pretty cool(and loud) cabinet.

My good friend @BadExample is too kind.

If one if your pedals isn't an HPF, I suggest adding one before adding/changing cabs.

Also, the 3015 needs a ported cab to work properly. For your Ampeg, I suggest modeling the cab and installing the appropriate speaker for it. Or picking up Ampeg's OEM speaker, the one designed to work in that cab.

Also, these days, the size alone of a speaker is really not related to the how much bass is produced. It's more a combination of cabinet design and speaker design combined.

If you're looking for lighter cabs, check out, like @BadExample posted, Revsound's 25 lb. 1x15(among others). Give the builder a call(really) to discuss your tone goals.
