Comparison: Berg HS410/ AE 410

Thanks. I'll search.

Both are great. If he doesn't show up here, PM Big String, who has gigged both with a number of different heads.

I use an AE410 as my primary cab, and gigged an HS210 quite a bit, and have spent a little time with the HS410.

Both sound GREAT with the Thunderfunk. I prefer the AE410 with the TF550, due to it having quite a bit more brightness up top, so it will allow the very smooth, mellow TF to 'grind' a bit when pushed, and will help to extend the top end of that head a touch... brighten it up a bit. Both the HS and AE are a bit 'tight' in the low end, with, to my ear, the HS having a bit more 'roundness' down low and a bit more of a low mid push.

Both are tight and punchy, and with the TF, I would describe the HS410 as 'round, warm, smooth', and the AE410 is a bit more extended down low (not much), and a bit more present in the upper mids and lower treble.

The weight difference is very noticable, even though theAE410 is not the lightest Neo 410 around.

I REALLY like the TF/AE410 combination myself, over the HS410, but pure IMO.. I like it a bit bright, and like the sound of those neo 10's breaking up slightly when pushed in the upper mids... lots of 'character'.

IMO and IME!

Haha, I just looked up another place where Ken mentioned the TF and AE410 combo, and then return to post it and he's already chimed in! ;)

Ah well, why not? Here's another of Ken's takes on the TF / AE410:

Cheers,

I like that TF/AE410 combination:D. It's always a big hit at the GTG's (as is the TF with the Aguilar DB112x 2 rig... really nice also).

I think if the OP had the newer, wider voiced and more powerful TF750a, the HS410 might edge the AE, since the 750has a bigger low end to it, and I believe a bit more going up top.

Both are fantastic cabs. I moved from an AE410 to the HS410 because my DB750 sounded a bit better with the HS, although the AE was also superb. At present I'm moving to the AE210 x 2 because of hauling issue with vehicles.

It would be splitting hairs but comes down to tone match and weight. I think at this point with most solid state heads I would choose the AE. For all tube amps or the DB750 I would choose the HS.

That's a good way of putting it, and it also makes sense when you consider that the HS410 is a modification of the SA410, which was designed and voiced for the Sadowsky Tube head, and really sounded (even more than the HS410) like an old school, sealed type of cab (that happened to have a tweeter).

I got a chance to A/B both with a Mesa M6 Carbine. I was sold on the AE until the guy told me he found an HS hiding in the back row. Two totally different beasts to my ears, with my bass, through that amp. The AE didn't have the punch, volume or general all-around balls that the HS did. HS did a better job of providing a believable low F# as well.

The extra 20 lbs. is definitely worth it for me. I bought the M6 at the same time.
