OK, so I've got Chris Stambaugh building me a neck and I got thinking. We talked about the Buzz Feiten (sp?) system and he suggested that the compensated nut by earvana worked surprisingly well, and was a non-permanent option. This seems to be like the nut on some of the new EB MM's.

Problem is, I email Earvana and they tell me they don't really make such a thing (bass, that is), they have done custom orders in the past, but I would need to send the bass in.

This isn't a practical solution for me. Anyone have any leads/thoughts/ideas along these lines?

From what I've heard that style of nut tends to make your open string sound not quite right. I haven't personally played one but thats what I've heard. If its a brand new bass with a nice straight neck I don't see much reason to use anything other then a standard bone nut or something along those lines.

Methinks you have heard wrong . . . . I have the comp nuts on all 4 of my EB MM basses, and the open strings sound fine. In fact, they intonate better with the comp nut than with a normal nut - that's what the things are for, anyhoo . . . .
