composition

Hi first I want to say I love your playing but I have a few questions.
How do you start songs?
How do you come up with your grooves?
how do you compose melodies?
and what looper would you recommend?

if you could answer even one of these it would be greatly appreciated
thanks!

thanks for the post and the questions!

Songs generally start out as a melodic idea for me and I take it from there. Grooves are just another aspect of vocabulary to me, so I draw upon influences and transcriptions I've made in the past and mould them into my own thing.

Melodies kind of just come to me at this point. There's no real formula for composing a melody. But I will say that the more you immerse yourself in good melodies from a listening standpoint, the more natural melody is to your ear and your brain, and the more likely you'll be to start coming up with them on your own.

I'm currently using a couple of different loopers.... I have the battle worn Line6 DL4 that I've used for years, and I recently got sent the new Flashback pedal from TC electronic so I'm really digging into using that right now too.
