Any chance you could stretch your compressor side of the budget a few dollars and consider the Duncan Studio Bass? It’s a ton of compressor for the money. The attack knob borders on useless, and it lacks any kind of metering, but the blend, compression, and low/mid/full switch controls are quite effective.
I saw some suggestions for the Joyo American mentioned. In other threads I’ve seen the Joyo Orange suggested. Might be worth a look/listen.
About the time I had the Agro I also owned a Blower from Idiotbox. Reasonable price. Good sound. While it’s got a reputation for high gain, it did low gain well. There was a ton of bass available with the EQ. It was a bit scooped sounding, so not ideal for rounder, warmer, vintage vibes. Maybe a little off of the OP tone goals, but I recall having it at the same time as the Agro and opting to keep it over the Agro.
