Compressor and punchy bass

Ah. That was a Fender Rhodes piano. Copping that sound requires slow attack, fast release, high ratio, bright roundwounds or fresh D'Addario Chromes, low mid boost, and a fairly light touch. A great compressor pedal for this is the MarkBass Compressore.

But that was pretty much the answer I was looking for, finding a compressor that has slow attack and fast release. I've been using a pick, a P bass and D'Addario Chromes I've got near this sound, but I could use some extra punch.

Only on a couple of albums. They never had a touring bassist, and often didn't use one on albums, either.

Glad I could help, though. The MarkBass Compressore is a fantastic compressor pedal, quite possibly the best there is. Better yet, you can generally find it for a reasonable price.

Careful with super fast release times, you'll get distortion on bass. Just an fyi so you don't think your gear is broken.

True, I actually meant that Doug Lubahn played in the two songs I posted before, both from the album Strange Days.

But my "big" question, at this point, is: are you reccomending the markbass pedal because it gives me full control or because it is an overall great pedal? Wouldn't I get a similar result with a cheaper pedal? The problem is I can't seem to find many pedals
with pots for attack and release.

It is a great pedal. I use it, and adore it you'll not find me without one. It is also very full-featured, yet easy to use, and exceptionally quiet. It can give you a really nice tube sag, too.
