Compressor or Limiter for slap/pop

My main motivation here is that I have space on my pedal board. I know, that's weak, but I have everything else I think that I want - but I lack a compressor/limiter.

I've never really thought I wanted one - I just maintained dynamics with my hands - but I do find that there are times when I'm called upon to get my slap on that some of the pops/thumps can feel awfully big - so it seems to me that a limiter set with a fairly high gate threshold would be the trick... And yes, a compressor has that function, it also raises the low end of the envelope which I really don't think I need, so why pay for it?

any thoughts?

I did a fair amount of research and this is good slappers comp that does not over do it in the 'added color' environment.

That's an EQ, right?

Yep. While it's not in the OP's want for a comp/limiter, given that his overall need is for a pedal that will 1. fill some space on his board, and 2. be used for slap bass, I feel it may fit his needs better than a comp/limiter (of which I've used as well for slap).
