Compressor Questionare

*Currently using the Seymour Duncan DoubleBack

*Previously used: Diamond, FMR, BBE (still have it), TE SMX onboard, Carl Martin.

Playing country and rock standards. The ability to blend in some uncompressed content nailed it for me; I prefer it over the Diamond's EQ tilt. There's a handful of other comps which offer a like option but I haven't trial'd them...no need to.

Currently use: dbx 160x, Zoom B3

Have used: Boss CS-3 humphrey mod. Have tried MXR M87, Aguilar TLC, Markbass Compressore.

Favorite is the dbx160x for the fact that it just sounds good with minimal tweaking.

Music played: Everything. Play in a corporate band.

Zoom BFX708
Boss GT6B (the rack type compressor model what ever it was)
Behringer Autocom
Ashdown Dual comp
Digitech Bass Squeeze
Zoom B9.1ut ('natural comp')
EHX White Finger
TC Electronics Nova Dynamics
Zoom MS-60b (Both 'M comp' and '160 comp')

Play mix of rock, hard rock and pop

Just bought an Aguilar TLC second hand. This will be my first foray into compressors and, based on all the research I've done, I feel (read HOPE :p) this will get me what I want. It was between that and the MXR M87, which is hard to find down here second hand. Hell, the Aggy was hard to find second hand itself...let alone for the price I got it for.

I mainly want it to even out the output of my EBMM Stingray which has a distinct drop in signal from the higher strings. From what I've heard and read, the TLC looks like it will do just that without sacrificing the killer Stingray low end a whole lot.

I'm going to be using it in both my alternative rock/grunge project and my post-metal project.

I have used:

Boss LMB-3
BBE opto original version
MXR bass Comp
Menatone JAC
Markbass Compressore
Empress
FEA DE-CL

I am currently using the Whirlwind OC and think this is the one. Mostly clean with a little touch of color, lots of useful settings, and good metering. Love the punch I get with it too.

I play rock, funk, electronica

Currently using: Diamond Bass Comp
It just has that punch and sweetens my tone. Not super transparent but what its adds is so gorgeous and addicting.

Previously owned:
1. PWNZOR - more clarity and less color then the Diamond, just a great pedal
2. Empress - very transparent but a bit too complicated for my tastes (seemed to take forever to dial it in)
3. Keeley 4 knob - beter suited for guitar, seemed to cut lows out too much for bass use
4. Diamond guitar version - works quite well for bass but can run out of headroom when using a 5 string
5. Aphex Punch Factory - not a bad comp but very cheaply built
6. MXR Dyna Comp - not good for bass, too much squash and loss of low end

Recently tried: Markbass Compressor - unbelievably good sounding, smooth fat and warm. Its large and a pain to power on a pedal board though.
