Compressor recommendations with P Bass/flats please

That said, compressor wise, I’ve found the spectracomp to work well

From watching clips and reading descriptions, a compressor sounds like something I could prudently utilize, more so than most other kinds of pedals out there.

If your E string is loose sounding compared to your other strings, first try lowering your pickup height just a bit on that string. It may tighten up the tone on that string and make it a little more even and punchier. Count the turns as you go so that if it doesn’t work you can put it Back where it was.

Great! Glad it helped. Another option besides a compressor that you might think about, is something like a clean boost pedal that has some EQ ability. Just a gentle boost can add a little mid and the EQ low and high for Phat and Sparkle if desired. I myself use a GT-10b for my FX base. If I was stepping into single pedals, it would be the full size TC Spark and the Keeley Bassist,,, but I’m very content with my multi FX

I play a P with flats and have owned several of the pedals in Scubaduba’s mega-thread and have found my perfect match in the Seymour Duncan Studio Bass. I settled on the SDSB after buying and selling all of the following:
- Origin Effects Compact Bass
- FEA Opti-FET
- Diamond BCP-1
- Ovnifx Smoothie
- Durham Sex Drive
- MXR MX87
- MarkBass Compressore
- FEA DE-CL
- Keeley Bassist

Not saying it’s better than these pedals, but rather it ended up being the perfect fit for me.

My main gig rig is a PBass, LaBella flats (not the Jamersons), Aguilar TH with SL112 cabs. I use the Empress and a Broughton HPF+LPF in my chain. Both pedals have improved how all of my basses sound. Flats, rounds, passive, active. It has been a revelation. I love the sounds I'm hearing these days..
