Compressor.

Hey guys,

Im looking for a nice compressor. Do you have any experience with one of those and which model could you recommend?

I have not been a fan of compressors till I got an Aphex Punch Factory this week. What I like about it is that it does not squash the sound. I read on a review on Harmony Central that this compressor is the one to get if you don't want the audience to know your using one.
Thou I haven't used it extensively, it seems to smooth out the sound of my bass and does not seem to color it.
The last point is that I bought it in the Talkbass classifieds for $55.00.

For more info than you'll know what to do with, look up bongomania's compressor mini-novel. Personally, I have a dirt-cheap older DOD that I actually like a lot. I've also been pleased w/Alesis' 3630 & the old Microlimiter.

I got one this week too When playing through it yesterday I honestly couldn't tell whether it was on or off, it is just so transparent but I finally found a way to tell if it was doing it's job - ie playing a single note progressively louder using my pick attack, with it on, it kept the note at the same volume which is exactly what I will be using it for. It will come in useful for when I am playing at band rehersal volume.

Personally, I use an EBS Multicomp which I am very happy with. It doesn't colour the sound at all, and works really well.

I'm another happy EBS MultiComp user. I would guess Carl Martin pedals are widely available in Denmark, have you checked those out?

my rig currently has a Rane DC24 which compresses lows and highs separately. mucho nice.

The Aphex sounds good in a band, in fact it's changed everything, I don't know exactly what it's doing besides evening the dynamics but it's making every note sound better yet not changing the tone. it's pretty cool.

Carl Martin...made in Denmark. You can probably pick one up at your local 7-11 (or whatever convenience store you have over there). Nice compressor, hardwired too.
