Computer... about $600... recommendations?

I bought a cheapo eMachines computer about 3 years ago at Best buy as an open box and it's still going strong. I think I got one of the last Pentium 4 chips ever made. eMachines computers offer a great deal of "bang for the buck", and me and others in my family have had very good experience with the brand. eMachines' parent company is Gateway. You should probably budget a RAM upgrade immediately on any computer at these prices.

I was over at Best Buy this morning, just browsing around, and I was checking out the laptops. I was amazed by all the features in today's laptops - huge hard drives, tons of memory, and for not a lot of money either. For less than $500 you can get yourself a killer laptop that should last for years.
