and the best option, reloading windows is always my first choice.

A reformat is a little extreme, even if it will solve the problem perfectly. It sounds suspiciously like you have some adware on your PC if your scanner isn't working properly.

not for windows...i used to do reformats every 6 months, when windows started acting stupid. I dont play computer games now, so its not needed as often...

if you do a search on it, you'll find that most people reformat at least once a year...thats what i found anyway...

Not to be a point of argument, but that would imply most people keep their important data on a second drive so they can reload Windows at will. IMO, that's highly unlikely. I agree that a reload is a sure-fire fix, but in most cases, only as a near last resort.
