Double Bass Computer Speakers - Recommendations?

I have these and they are actually pretty good.

The sub has a decent bass response.

Yes, that's the one. My wife gave these to me for Xmas several years ago, especially because of the bass response; at the time, I was looking up a lot of youtube videos to learn bass lines for various songs. I personally still like them a lot, but I certainly don't consider myself an audiophile (or any other type of ...phile for that matter). I just know what I like, and I like these speakers.

I decided to give this one a try - should be here in couple of days and I'll report back.

I've had these installed for a few days now, and I'm happy. I think the best thing one can say about speakers is that you forget about them, and that's what's happened with these. I've been listening to a variety of music, and everything sounds right to me, and sounds great. Orchestra recordings sound correct, and for their era as well as I've listened to a few old favorites, e.g., Berstein/NYPhil playing Barber's Adagio for Strings, last night the Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings (which I have to play bass in a few months from now), and really the only person I consistently enjoy listening to, Kate Rusby - if you don't know Kate Rusby, I highly recommend.

As they are bookshelf speakers, they are sitting on the bookshelf in front of me, and the sub-woofer is at my feet. The sub volume control (which is on the right bookshelf speaker) has some sort of mark at about 10 o'clock, so that's where I positioned it before I started listening, and I haven't moved it since.

NB: they recommend a mini-to-mini cable, which I bought, but which you don't need at all. The speaker system comes with everything you need to connect the various pieces and a wire that plugs into the headphone jack of your computer or phone.

I just listened to this, and the bass solo sounds great, as does the rest of it

Get to a music or pro audio store that has a good selection of near field monitors. I use both Edirol (Roland) and Blue Sky. Forget anything sold as a computer speaker or a multimedia speaker. They all suck.

What you get for what you pay continues, in many areas, to improve over time. I recall, as a kid, my first guitar which cost $100, and you could put your entire hand between the strings and the fingerboard at the 12th fret. The quality of inexpensive musical instruments these days is amazing, and I don't mean the cheapie stuff. Particularly guitars, since they're so popular - the $300 guitar these days is pretty amazing. The $300 classical guitar would be good enough to get you into college as a performance major in many cases.

Speakers - for me, the same story. You'd have spent thousands of dollars in 1970 to get what I hear from the three-piece, $150 system I just bought. No one says it's the equivalent of a high-end monitor, but it's really not terrible, and it's good enough to be connected to my laptop and give a pleasant, relatively uncolored listening experience at realistic volume levels.

BTW, and FWIW, I find volume level a critical variable in listening to recorded music. When I'm listening to orchestral music, cranking up the volume to louder than it would be sitting in a concert hall will make any relatively inexpensive sound reproduction system sound bad, but I don't think that's a fair test, or perhaps I might say it better by saying it tests something I don't need.

5 years after my first post, I had trouble with these speakers, the company recommended replacing the control until for $30 which I did, and when that didn't solve the problem, they sent me a new set of everything for free.

I am still very happy with these speakers. $120 on amazon.

I have two computers now on two different floors of the house and I think I'm going to buy another set of these - but I'm always interested to hear other opinions, so if you've got something you like connected to your computer, I'm all ears to hear your recommendations. (BT lag makes me crazy, so wired only, please.)

I have been enjoying these for about three years. The system does include a sub. Zero issues thus far, and to my ear they rival my Yamaha home system.

i think these are still the best all-round speaker system. i've got a pretty nice stereo setup as well as studio monitors and these klipsch are most often my first choice.
