Concentric Dual Volume Wiring Diagram?

Basically it is the same as wiring a two volume pot bass. Below is a snippet from a Fender diagram for one of their VVT Jazz basses that has been modified to show you how to wire a concentric pot. The concentric volume pot would be wired the same as the two pots in a VVT bass, the only difference is that instead of two different volume pots you have a single pot with two sections on concentric shafts. Just pretend the two sections are two different pots as the modified diagram below shows. The lower section of the pot is controlled by the center shaft and the diagram below shows that wired to the neck pickup but you can swap the pickup wires from what is shown below if you would prefer to have the bridge pickup on the center shaft.

This diagram has a couple of earth wires missing. If the tone pot ever became loose (uncommon admittedly), it wouldn't work, so add a wire from its casing to the earth lug. If the jack ever became loose (very common), the bass's output would become scratchy or cut out. So connect the sleeve lug on the jack to the earth lug as well.

Yeah, its a Fender diagram. As long as the nuts all stay tight it will work but you are right that the wired connection is much better, that is how I would do it, and truth be told other Fender diagrams show a wired connection. A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds but consistency would be an appropriate insurance policy in this case!

Hi Guys, I plan to do the same mod, one volume/volume (Bridge/Neck) Concentric pot but with the addition of a Seymour Duncan STC-2C-BO pre-amp. Can any of you tell me if I should use a 250K/250K concentric pot for the volume, or 500K/500K? Going for that Dual '62 Jazz Bass look?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Since you need to install the volume pot(s) before the preamp, it's not relevant to the preamp. Choose your volume pot(s) according to your pickups/your preference.

Ah, good point. Thanks for pointing that out! Now the question becomes this; what would 500K pots do to my sound opposed to 250K pots? Would the 500K pots decrease the volume of the signal overall? Sorry if this seems elementary, this is new territory for me. I've just recently installed a set of Seymour Duncan Classic Jazz Stacks (STK-J1N and STK-J1B) and replaced both volume and the tone pots with 250K as shown in wiring diagram that came with the pickups. They sound great but the overall output is about the same as the factory pickups they replaced. Original pickups were Squire Affinity Series PUPs.

Again, thanks for the help!

This is an old post so I hope to get a response on this!

I have a New '51 PJ Tele Bass (Parallel Universe) and straight out of the box, the volume would drop off significantly when when both the Upper and Lower sections of the 250/500 pot are opened all the way. Actually, the volumes just don't seem to work properly at all. For sure, not wired as show above! Is the above diagram with a 250/500 Concentric pot as well? I did not try this combination yet for resolving my issue.

Thanks,
Steve

Also, I take it that the second diagram with the daisy-chained ground going to the lug is the proper one to use?

Resuscitating - This diagram and explanation were VERY helpful in assisting with my weird baritone tele conversion wiring. Thanks! Leave it to Talkbass.
