Double Bass Condensor mics for recording

Hey guys I have been putting together a decent project studio at the house. The one thing I am addressing now is a short list of good mics, not just for my bass but vocals, horns etc. I have a nice Roland V drum kit so I don't suspect I will be buying a set of mics for live drums. The usual studio staples AKG C414, Sennheiser MD421, of course 57s and 58s.

I was hoping to get some suggestions as to what might be a really great mic for recording my DB, maybe a Royer ribbon mic, Neumann TLM103. Something that can have multiple uses not just a specialized mic like the AMT or something.

Thanks! I read through a few of those already and spent some time reading through the rest. I guess my question is subjective, many standard vocal mics which will be useful around the studio have good posted results -

AKG C414
Neumann TLM 103

AT4050

Rode NT1 or 2
Senn 421
EVRE20

Based on reviews both here on TB and on other recording websites seem to put the AT4050 very close to the TLM103 and AKG414. I am sceptical if it is that good or if I should just be spending the extra money.

Another type of mic to consider is one of the many very small diaphragm omnis, such as Earthworks, DPA, Avenson, etc.

Omnis have no proximity effect and are usually very flat in response (true omnis, not the adjustable pattern kind). You can place them closer to the bass than a cardiod without the undesirable effects. Depending on your room, this could give you a much more natural and up-front sound than a directional mic can. It all depends on many factors, but it's another option to consider.

I don't have any expreience with omnis, I will have to start doing my homework.

I am planning on building both a booth that will be large enough to play DB in comfortably as well as a small live room approx 12x14 that I can utilize. So I don't think I will be limited in my choice based on the rooms although I may be wrong on that point.
