Confused: PLEASE HELP!!

I started playing bass six months ago, and I've been using my dad's bass. Now that I have a summer job, I'm thinking of buying my own. I played a Neuser Cloudburst, and loved it, but I don't think that I want to spend all of my summer's pay on it. I've also been looking at a Steinburger Spirit on ebay for $300 with buy it now provisions.

Go to a music store and try a bunch of basses out. What feels and sounds right in your hands?

To the OP -

Every player is different, and every bass is different. It sounds like you know that you're going to keep on playing the bass, so now is the time to gather as much information as possible so that you can make a good decision. The best way to do that is by trying out as many basses as you can.

Also, don't discount the importance of a good amp. You can make a $100 Squier bass sound GREAT through a nice amp, and a $10,000 Fodera sound TERRIBLE through a crappy amp.
