Confused?!?!

I recently picked up a Gallien Krueger 410 glx for $50. I know for sure one speaker needs to be replaced but that's not my question. Each speaker in the cab is rated at 100 watts and the cab is rated at 8ohms. Does that mean that there ran in series (2x4ohms) twice or parallel (2/16ohms). Question 2 is if I buy a 400-600 watt head at 4 ohms how would the power be transferred or should I spend the extra money on a specific 8 ohm head that runs 375-400??? These questions might sound dumb but I'm used to using combos not legitimate rigs. Thank in advance for any and all advice.
 
Most heads run an 4 and 8 ohms. I have never seen an amp that runs at 8 ohms specifically. You get less W when you run an amp at 8 ohms but it's not a big deal, number of speakers counts more. This way you could always add another 410 cab and run at 4 ohms. Plenty of great amp options. If you wanna go GK, RB series are great and so are micro MB series.
 
Impossible to answer how they're wired without knowing what the impedance of each speaker is. Generally, a 4Ω 4x10 will be wired with either 4Ω speakers in series/parallel or 16Ω speakers all in parallel. An 8Ω 4x10 will be wired with 8Ω speakers in series/parallel. Emphasize GENERALLY -

The cab will be rated for 400 thermal watts regardless of how it is wired. Emphasize "thermal", ie, the maximum rated power that can be sustained for any period of time without melting the voice coils of the speakers. The mechanical limit will be much less, 2/3rds or even half of the thermal rating - so turn the volume down if you hear the speakers complaining.

This is not information that is common to all amplifiers, not even semiconductor types, I even have an old Vortexion transistor power amp that has an output transformer as standard.
Thus delivers its full rated power into a range of different nominal impedances including 100 volt line applications or hearing aid loop
systems. Yes it weighs quite a bit.

As an 8 ohm 4x10 they are probably, as Jaco_who? points out, 8 ohm speakers run in series/parallel (Ampeg is the only company that I can think of that still regularly uses 32 ohm speakers, so IIRC, one of thier 8 ohm 4x10 cabs is 4x 32 ohm speakers in parallel). But you'll only be sure if you check the speakers themselves.

If you are getting a solid state amp, they'll (for the most part) only have problems with lower impedances. The power rating at 4 ohms is often given, simply because it's the bigger number/the most it can put out within operating specs. You'll also find that most solid state amps run at a 2 ohm or 4 ohm minimum these days.

You won't get 'the most' out of one of those amps when using an 8 ohm cab, but the difference in volume is going to be negligable.
 
4 32ohm speakers in parallel would net you 8ohms, not 4. But that's how they would get a 4 ohm 8-10 cab to work out with 32 ohm speakers.

G-K uses parallel wiring in speaker cabs only. The drivers are 32 ohm.

There we have it, didn't realise GK used 32 ohm speakers too.

What I meant was, I've never seen an amp that would only do 8 ohms. But yea, you're right, there are amps who do full power at both 4 and 8 (and 2).
 
Well I fixed all the speakers today and turns out the voice coil wire connecting to the terminals was why the guy thought they were broken. Cost me 5 bucks and 20 minutes to get the cab functional. Also picked up a 1001rb for 450 from a guitar center by my house. So I'm I'm waiting to out it together to see how everything sounds. Hopefully it's good. Thanks for the tips guys. You can never know enough
