Conklin strings

Whats your experience with Conklin strings (Snakeskins and the SIT Conklin signature strings)?
I am in the process of acquiring a couple of 8 string fretless basses, and I've found that complete string sets for ERB's are less than readily available to put it mildly...

What I am worried about is that the strings that are available might not be "fretboard friendly" (I don't know, since I've never tried the strings in question).
Are the Conklin/SIT strings too rough for fretless basses?

Any help/input on this is greatly appreciated

I use Snakeskins on my fretless 6. I don't really worry about wear since I ordered mine with a Dymondwood fingerboard. I believe most Conklins have a coated fingerboard to deal with wear.

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] has a bunch of SIT strings, although no contrabass strings.

I've used roundwounds on my ebony board and my epoxy-coated board (sounds different, it's part of the tonal difference) for ages. When you get into low F# strings the windings can be coarser but I've seen no exceptional wear. I'd say choose your strings for the sound and not how long it takes before you need to have the board re-surfaced. Of course, with rosewood it will wear faster than with ebony or ebonal/diamondwood/_insert_tradename_here.

The best F# string easily available by my preferences is the Warwick .175, but I'm hoping Labella will eventually market their .185 I've got a prototype of.

Heh, I'm more worried about the fingerboard being too rough on the strings!
