Considering a Carvin SB5000 Bass.

Hello, this is my first post. :)

I am a member of my church praise team and I am considering the purchase of a Carvin SB5000. Would that be a good bass for that kind of atmosphere? Also, has anyone played one yet? If so, how are they? I played a couple of Carvins over the years, but not an SB5000. Going by how the others were, I am guessing that they would be a great instrument?

If you wouldn't purchase a Carvin. What one would you get?

If you are on the fence just go for it! Highly recommended. I love my SB5000. If you go with Carvin talk to FLOCK at San Diego, he really took care of me. Just mention the Forsythe Bass. Besides if you don't like it, ten days later you send it back. No worries.

Really not sure how to answer that... :hmm:

The bottom line is that nearly any quality instrument can be made to work for nearly any application. So much depends upon personal preference...

That said, the SB5000 is a good, pro-quality instrument that will cover a lot of styles with versatility. Chances are it would work just fine for your needs...

I lived within walking distance of the Carvin store in Hollywood, CA for 7 years and I was one of the first there to play the new SB series can say. YES YES and another astounding YES.

I'm am a Carvin owner sever times over. After some mods on my part, my '97 LB 5-string fretless is the best sounding I've ever played. The SB series was another one where Carvin got it right in a big way.. Simple, reliable, loads of character and tone. I tell anyone who listen, when it comes to a great bass, you can't go wrong with a Carvin.

HA!! I know flock, the guy's hair made him famous, saw him at NAMM last year doing his thing...

You are not whistling Dixie, his hair is off the hook. I tell you though he really took an interest in me, and my instrument, or it was just Flock being a very awesome Flock. Ever seen him with his hair down? Looks totally different, obviously. He is one cool cat.

I went with as you can see, flame Koa. If you are ever likely to sell it, be aware the extras are not necessarily going to translate into more resale value. I really suggest you talk to Flock, and tell him what you are looking for, as he is very knowledgable about tone, etc. If you do go with Carvin please at least mention my bass, as he really took care of me, and I want him to know I appreciate him. The SB5000 is a very all around kind of beast, and it is bolt on, not neck through. If there is ever a question of neck issues, bolt on is just a breeze, plus I might decide I'd like an awesome bird's eye maple neck at some point. Anyway, I'm very high on Carvin and would love to welcome you to the happy owner's section.
