Considering a Carvin SB5000 Bass.

I have an SB5000 and use it every week at my church. It works flawlessly and is a wonderful bass. I've owned a lot of different basses over the years of varying dollar values and this is my personal favorite plus you can customize it any way you like. I love mine so much, I am having a second one made. It's fine for all applications of music. My church does Hillsong, Planetshakers and some gospel music and it sounds great in the mix for all of it.

Awesome. This is just what I wanted to hear. Thanks for the feedback. Do you have a 4 string or a 5 string?

The SB5000 is an amazing bass with lots of flexibility. A game changer, IMHO.

My first experience with an SB5000 changed everything for me. I got one used here on TB because I had some money on the sidelines and it seemed like a good fit. I only play 5 strings, and until then I was a huge drinker of the gotta-have-a-35"-bass-to-have-a-good-B-string Kool-Aid.

After about 5 minutes with that bass, I knew I was wrong about the 35". The B on the SB5000 was every bit as good as my 35" basses, so I sold them all off (as well as a 34" Sadowsky) and now own multiple Carvins. I recently ordered my 3rd and 4th Carvins from the factory.

I can't think of any bass that can match it for cost and quality combined. And when you factor in that you can build your own, there's nothing within miles of it.

The kit would be fun if you just wanted to mess with the process. To me the money isn't much different if Carvin turns the screws, etc, to each his own. Anyway, I'm very glad to offer any information in your pursuit.

The question has been answered already but yes it is a 5 string. I can say that the low B on this bass is excellent (and I used to own Laklands which are favored so much because of their B strings) The bass seems to like tapered B strings better than non-tapered. The stock Carvin strings come with the tapered B BTW. I have tried lots of different strings on this bass and the stock Carvin strings are actually very good and they are dirt cheap. Currently, I have a set of Sadowsky Blue Nickels on them and they sound great but I wouldn't be sacrificing anything to go back to the Carvin strings.
