Considering GK RB800 + Ampeg SVT410HLF - What do you think?

Anyone using these together? I'll be playing smallish club venues up to 1000 people max - usually <500.

Looking for (in this order of priority):

1. Great sound - I play a Sterling 4 fretless primarily - straight forward rock indie music.
2. Reliability - I won't have a backup. This rig needs to be rock solid.
3. Portability - I'm my own roadie. I like the dolly type setup of the SVT410HLF for this reason.
4. I'm trying to keep this setup around $1500 - the cab is $749, the amp is $749. Right on.

If there's something better out there that fits these criteria - please let me know. Thanks in advance!

I think it'll work out great. I haven't used the 800RB with the Ampeg410HLF but did a few shows with the 800 into an Ampeg 4x10 Classic model. Great sound and lots of guts. The 800RB works good with any decent speaker cabinet.

You have excellent taste.
That's a rig that combines a classic "No BS" head with a classic "No BS" cabinet, combining to form a great-sounding "No BS" rig!:D

Every year, there will be new gear giving us GAS; every year we'll lust after the newest, lightest units with lights, dials, colors!
But a rig like you're suggesting will continue to put out great tone, headroom, volume and power forever. Period.
It might not be the newest, lightest, coolest, or most expensive set-up, but I'll tell ya- If you can play bass, there isn't much else that you need to get by, and both are road-worthy too if you hit the highway with your music.

Good choice! Get it.

Can't say much for the GK, I've never played one, but I own one of the 410HLF cabs, and they sound great. However, they do weigh a ton, and due to their height, the "dolly" setup is a two edged sword. If you stand taller than, say, 4 foot 10, then moving the cab any farther than down the hall is a good recipie for a backache (although still probably better than trying to carry the damn thing.) But I love it anyway, and am thinking about buying another (and a backbrace).

800RB puts out 300W

HLF 410 has an RMS of 500W and a sensitivity** of 98 db.

DO NOT use another cab with the HLF (unless you plug an 8ohm cab into the high section for an added 100watts.) and the HLF should only be plugged into the woofer amp (low amp) unless you really want to smoke your high amp in a flash.

I'd say that's a good match.


it'll grind in a very good way. I'd say this is a solid club - ballroom rock setup.



**since you do not have a curve provided for the cab - it'll be very difficult to see where the advantages and disadvantages of the cab are.

I tried a 700RB-II through that cab with a P bass. I almost had a little accident.

I went with a cheaper cab in the end (Avatar), but that sound... awesome. I'm sorry I can't describe it, other than that at the time, I couldn't believe that sound was being made by me and not someone much better. The Avatar does a great job too, mind you, but it's not the same...

I had used an 800rb head with the ampeg 410hlf as my first great sounding rig. I regret trading the 800rb for an ampeg svt4. I thought the svt4 would be so much better... higher wattage and tubes, but it didnt sound so great in my opinion. The 800rb was half the weight and had more than enough output to push the cabinet nicely. If I could go back in time I would have never gotten rid of it. The 800rb is very versatile and is very reliable, I owned one for 3 years and gigged heavily with no issues. The 410hlf is still going strong 5 years later but the tolex and grill dont look so hot anymore.
