Double Bass contemporary bass bow makers

I used one of the Marchand bows (and a Martin bass) for my show at the Berlin bass conference. I was very impressed with the bow (German, in my case). Ian and Peter (of Tom's shop) said they were made in Banbury (England)... obviously not by "George Marchand"... Andrew McGill would be my guess... but that's pure speculation on my part.

I added McGill to the list at around 3k; his website says his bows start around 2300 USD.

If McGill does make the Marchand bows, maybe he uses factory frogs or somesuch to keep the cost down.

EDIT: Mr. McGill has informed us that he is not the maker of the "Marchand" bows.

I emphasize I'm just speculating, and wouldn't want to assume further (although what you suggest makes sense - I think that's how Tom Owen makes his bows... with "factory" frogs etc... and they're really pretty good.

Marchand is not a real person I guess. Not to say those bows are not very nice! I'd be curious to try one.

I think originally Marco Raposo mad eall his bows himself (I think -- sorry to be doing so much thinking here!!) he broke away from the Water Violet collective in Brazil that had making some pretty good bow makers (Guasti, Bottoni, Cirillo etc) in the mid '90s... Now I it looks like he runs a "shop" system himself.

Michael Taylor is a great bow maker (originally from the UK) who lives in Spain. I just bought a bow from him this summer--very similar to the one that he made for Leigh Mesh--and I'm loving it. The price fluctuates, depending on the USD/Euro exchange rate, but they are around $5k.

Muniz is one of the makers in the Arcos Brasil association (collective?). His bows go for around $700-$800 from what I understand.

I still can't really find anything on this person. Perhaps he is a maker in the Arcos Brasil group, or maybe he is just a stamp they use.

Back to England.... John Clutterbuck in Oxford is another great bow-maker. Unfortunately his bows rarely show up in the US, but there is one (French) here:

When I was at the Contrabass Shoppe a couple of summer's ago, I used Tony Hrouska's Tunnicliffe bow to test out some basses. Very nicely made.
