contrast between gigs

hi,i've just played 2 gigs this weekend and the contrast between them is amazing;has anyone else done the same?the 1st gig was at a scooter rally(we're a who covers band with a female singer)the organising of the sound set up was attrocious.the P.A. was weak,no sound man,speakers were old and flappy,we had to carry our gear quite a way.couldn't hear the singer even when we turned down.we still rocked and enjoyed it and the scooter lot liked us.
next gig was an open affair for a charity event in southampton.we played on a bands stand with a professional set up ie.soundman,monitors,drums mic'd up,back line DI'd out and the sound out the front was loud and clean.you could hear everything(especially the singer) and we rocked out it was great.we enjoyed both gigs but the difference between them was immence.:hyper:

What is the name of your band? Thinking For Tuesday gig a lot in the Hampshire/Surrey Area (Next one is at the Cellars in Portsmouth) I'll look out for you.

we're called Fooled Again.know of the cellars but never played there.where else you gig?take it easy.:bassist:

I remember one day years ago when I played an amusing "doubleheader": a formal wedding in the afternoon, with a band consisting of New England Conservatory and Berklee teachers, and a rock show at night, at a large concert hall.
The funny part was that the drummer at the earlier gig scoffed at me for playing rock ("How can you stand the noise?"), and the guitarist in the rock band thought it was downright hilarious that I had just been wearing a tux and playing "Satin Doll", "Take the A Train" and other jazz standards in the afternoon. It taught me a lesson about how widespread musical snobbery can be.

Last Halloween... It was about 50 degrees out with a cold breeze blowing. Due to work obligations I couldn't be there for soundcheck and long story short, the thing was a train wreck. The very next weekend at an indoor gig, we rocked and everything went great.

Unpredictability is part of the nature of the performance beast.

YES, numerous times.

Played on a float in our local St. Patty's Day Parade...apparently I was the only one that could sightread the tunes we were given, so we looped the same song the entire parade. OH and it was 23 degrees outside. Then we were asked to play in this guy's bar for an hour (thank god no more than that!). Let's just say this was a bad experience.

Went home, picked up my dignity (the gig was that bad), thawed my chops and played a badass jazz concert with basically all the profs at my university!! Packed house, one of my best shows to date. :) :)

Another time in high school I played an outdoor rock festival in the afternoon, booked it home to shower and change into my tux, show up late for prom dinner, then go to prom and play there. Ended up dating the girl for 1 1/2 years hahaha.

Cool, I checked out your website last night,

will look out for you if you are anywhere near me :)

we play all over, but generally Guildford (Boilerooms), Winchester(The Railway), Southampton(The Joiners, Talking Heads, The Hobbit and The Brook), Portsmouth (The Cellars, Edge of the Wedge), High Wycombe (White Horse, Nags Head) and London (far too many to mention).
