Double Bass Converting a fretless electric bass to an EUB

Hey eveybody, I know some people wont like this, but here it goes: I can't afford a double bass, or even an EUB. So, I'm thinking about maybe modifying my fretless electric and turning it into an EUB. So:
- longer scale length
- new body
- modified DB-style bridge
- endpin (I really hate the tripod stands)

Any suggestions or anybody with experience in this area?

By the time you are done, you'll have spent more doing the conversion than you probably would have if you just bought a used one outright.

And the result will probably not be pretty.

ok, well this isn't going to work... the neck feels NOTHING like a double bass, way too thin, and it's got an almost-flat radius.... so, plans cancelled...
now the question is just of whether to buy an acoustic or electric....

The bridge thing would never work anyway, because your fretless EB has a flat fingerboard, and the DB bridge is curved.

Yeah, just get a used DB.

Don't do this, no offense but your idea would have about the same results as the Dean Pace, its a 34 inch mensure with a flat fingerboard.

My option to this was to get an Epiphone (can't afford the Gibson!) EB-1 Bass guitar with the end pin so I can play it upright.
I put black nylon wound smooth strings to dull the tone down.
Take the frets out and you are there.

I would go buy a real upright bass made from plywood from and set up by a local luthier that knows what they are doing and then get a teacher to teach you how to play.

OK, I've actually got a real double bass, not an EUB, but an acoustic with a pickup - much happier than I would have been with an EUB!!!
