Converting an Ashdown combo into a cab for use with another head

Hi folks,

Just wondering if anyone has converted a combo into a cab before? I own an Ashdown MAG300 4x10 combo and recently purchased an Ashdown ABM900EVO2 head. My thought is to:
1. extract the head unit from the combo and make it into a standalone head (as a back-up)
2. cut the then extra top section off
3. re-cover the cab to get rid of the fur
4. insert a backplate with speak-on socket.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I had an ABM300 combo, and removed the head. I had a new case made for the head, cause I still used it. I just didn't want to carry the whole weight of the combo...

That being said, I would not do what you're suggesting... I'd sell the MAG combo and buy an ABM cabinet. It would be a better match, and it would not kill the resale value of the MAG.

Another option is to route the speaker wires out the back, cut the wires and simply reconnect them through male & female speaker jacks. That way you could still use the combo, or just use it as a cab like you want. I've done this to a couple of my combos without drilling any holes, so the mod was fully reversible.
