When I first got the bass, I used stickers to hide the dings.

This is my first attempt to paint an instrument.

Of course I had to screw up something and luckily it was on the back.

I originally planned to do a simple burst but the wood on the face of the body had no grain at all. So I had to be more creative.

I'll probably sell it to fund doing another. That and I have been playing my 4 string more lately.

There are a few more pics on my photbucket site, HERE

This was sort of inspired by the Macca bass and the Fool guitar all at once but personalized - and built and painted and everything else - by my genius luthier pal, Corey Keller (he's in Santa Cruz and I WILL hook you up because he's good with basses - obviously).

All of the individual art pieces have some significance to me.

Yes, that's a silver hammer belong to Maxwell Edison. You can see his initials.

The Flying Pig honors my best friend Fred Drake (RIP). He loved Pink Floyd - and collected pig statuettes. If you're familiar with The Desert Sessions and all those people, then you might hoist a cold one for Fred tonight. He was MY drummer, but he was also one hell of a producer and engineer.

Did I mention that Corey Keller is a freakin' genius?

Corey Keller and I at an Ernie Ball bash in the desert. Yes, I kissed him and yes, it was scratchy.

Every so often I consider selling it but the bass is just so cool I haven't yet

I wanted a Voodoo Vibe thing so I had a local artist (a New Orleans transplant no less) come up with a whole Voodoo theme, all the symbols are supposed to bring good luck etc:

Thanks guys; started thinking I should buy a white SX and get creative; need another bass like ....

JohNLA - Very nice work; incredible first job; keep doing your own thing and don't look at anybody elses work for inspiration

Thanks alot, I am very proud of how it turned out. I wish I could say it was all my own thing but there is a whole line of army type BC Rich guitars that really inspired my design.
I did add the got blown up elements. So I feel I changed it enough:ninja:
Picasso, said "Good artists borrow and great artists steal".
I still don't know who created Ratfink? Was it Big Daddy Roth or Stanley Mouse.

Some fantastic looking paint in this thread:hyper:

roigmarole,"how do you like this one?"
I think it looks fantastic. I love the color choice.

What are the chances of another Peavey Foundation in the mix? I love that Voodoo paint.

I don't think I would have the guts to paint a Ric but the Maxwell Silver Hammer rules:D

I would love to see a close up of the guitar by Jarek Eysymont posted above. The detail looks amazing.

The burnt aztec guitar would look really cool with a Faux rocks and maybe a vines and vegitation. I love the drawings.

I would not have guessed you could paint an acoustic and it keep it cool  but that Epiphone Expedition travel guitar and Martin are proof.

Too many great paint jobs to comment on them all:eek:

always been a fan of the "Mystic Dream" paint job on the Ernie Ball Petrucci model

+1 - I have a specialized bass all planned out, and a large part of it is a "Kameleon"/"Flip-Flip"-style paint job on a Spector body. The reasoning for that particular bass is that the the finish "activates" from lighting and curves on the body, and because the NS body shape is all curves and no flat areas it'll be in a constant shifting of colors no matter where you're wearing it (both on your body as well as the "location") as well as the lighting.
