Tommy Erdelyi/Ramone, drummer. Joey was originally on drums(he had played with 60's one hit wonder "Keith", of "98.6" fame for awhile), but drumming and singing at the same time didn't work out. As they were rehearsing at Erdelyi's loft, he volunteered to take over, having never played before. He was a guitarist, and had been in a teen garage band with Johnny(on bass), the Tangerine Puppets…

Tommy's main gig was studio assistant at the Record Plant, and had worked on Hendrix's Band Of Gypsies album. He left the band after the third album to concentrate on production.

Interesting persona he created for himself. Not like that at all in the real world. I used to see him with his wife regularly at Malee's Thai Bistro in Old Town Scottsdale. They always sat in the small dining room to the right of the entrance. Quiet, keeping to themselves. Nobody bothered them, myself included. My only regret is that I was never invited to play in his charity golf tournament. I lacked the celebrity status. :laugh:

Yes, it was all theatre from the start.
In 1964 Vincent, Dennis and Glenn ran cross country track in high school and they were the kind of kids in high school who would join a talent show when several didn't even know how to play instruments (Glen did).
Michael didn't join until 1966, he played football at another local high school and knew how to play guitar and keyboards when he joined.
Glen was already a guitar player when they first formed in school and Glenn basically taught a few of the others how to play their instruments.
Glen also wrote most of their early songs.
Neal didn't join until 1967 when the band was call Nazz (previously The Earwigs and The Spiders) and the same year they moved to Los Angeles where Frank Zappa developed an interest in them and helped them become famous.
