That's where the band initially came together, at an off-campus animal house as Soft White Underbelly, with an earlier line-up. Eric Bloom came along later, but original lead vocalist Jeff Kagel, after he left the band, eventually got deep into Indian music and religion, changed his name to Krishna Das, and ended up not only recording albums in a new age/world music style but was involved with running a label(Triloka)in that direction, plus they had some releases of older jazz artists.
The office was in Venice Beach(L.A.), and my roommate at the time had just gotten on there in promotions when I moved to town. I did some work assembling promo packages on days off from my other job, and I met Das once when he came in, but I didn't bring up the BOC connection as that was another life for him.
I did sound at a cabaret for one of their emerging artists, Phil Manzanera(of Roxy Music, who had a Latin style album with them)swapped an autographed copy of said album for a Talk Talk CD of mine that we were playing when he dropped by, and as Steely Dan's Walter Becker did some production for them, I got to sit with him at the label's reserved table at a Tony Williams gig(Christian Mc Bride on upright). Not bad for just showing up one day a week stuffing envelopes.

Naw, knowing of Miles' nature, he would have used some "slightly" stronger language.
