Performing with Johnny Winter at the Palladium in Birmingham Michigan in March of 1970 (2 nights) is Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Tommy Shannon, who began playing in bands during high school. After graduation he moved to Dallas, eventually meeting Johnny Winter and joining Winter's band. he was at Woodstock in 1969. After that Tommy played in the Krackerjack band, where he would first meet a young (14) Stevie Ray Vaughan. Years later Shannon would again hook up with Vaughan in the acclaimed Double Trouble band. Tommy would work with Stevie until Vaughan's tragic passing in 1990. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. In 2023 he stated in an interview he had retired from performing.

Detroit's Cobo Arena - April 1971 (2 nights) bassist Mel Schacher of Grand Funk Railroad. born in Owosso and raised in Flint, Mel began as a guitarist and switched to bass in his early teens, by 1965 he was playing in local bands. He joined Question Mark & the Mysterians, replacing 96 Tears bassist, Frank Lugo. He toured with them until Mark Farner and Don Brewer asked him to join a new trio they were forming. from '69 until '76 Schacher performed with Grand Funk, maybe the quickest success story in RnR history, thanks to Svengali Manager, Terry Knight, quickly becoming one of, if not the most popular and highest grossing bands of 1970.
This is the oldest record store in the United States, George's Song Shop in my hometown, Johnstown, PA.
