saw Humble Pie rock the hell outta that hall '72
It’s such a historic hall. So many great bands came through. Back in the day it was THE concert hall in town.
I saw War a month or so before at the Memorial Auditorium in that summer of ‘74.. My mom took me because her friend bailed on her. I was only 13. It was great. A few days later, I saw the Jackson Browne date further down the schedule, but she wouldn’t take me.
Not only was War my first rock concert experience. It was also my first contact high experience too. LOL. Boy, was it thick in there. You know what I mean. I think she felt guilty about that part. I told her I “forgave” her,
but she wouldn’t budge.

I’ve had the opportunity to play through a couple that were used by the Australian band, The Church, as a prop backline in a video. Former guitarist Marty Willson-Piper, who I know, is a Rickenbacker user/endorser. He was down at the Santa Ana factory when they were cleaning out a back room, and just gave them to him to get them out of there. While they do look cool, much like the American-made Vox amps of the 60’s they were transistor and shrill sounding. The on-board fuzz was particularly nasty. The only upside is that the cabs were loaded with Altec drivers.
