George; "I met Gene Vincent in the Star-Club bar one day in a break, he said, 'Quick, come with me! we jumped in a taxi and went up the Reeperbahn to the apartment where he was staying. I began to notice that he was all uptight, he thought the tour Manager was bonking his girlfriend. we ran inside, up to the front door and Gene opened his coat and pulled out a gun, he handed it to me saying, 'hold this,' and started knocking on the door and shouting, 'Henry, you bastard!' I thought to myself, 'I'm out of here,' gave him the gun back and cleared off quick."

Before Poco and before the Eagles, in high school bassist Timothy B. Schmidt was in a Sacramento based band called the New Breed. He’s on the left in both photos. The girls in the second picture are a band called the Svelts who after a few years changed their name to Fanny. The two bands often shared the bill at shows.

That picture was taken at the very first House of Blues n Cambridge, MA where I was lucky to play a few times. It’s long gone and the remaining HOB locations (including the one on Boston) aren’t blues venues, either. On keyboard is Dave Maxwell (RIP) who played with Freddie King, Bonnie Raitt and James Cotton throughout the 1970s and with Ronnie Earl from 1990 to 1992 (probably when this was taken). He also worked with many other blues greats for shirt periods on the road or in the recording studio.
