Cool rock n roll photos

Here's to Ian Stewart,co-founder and sixth member of the original Rolling Stones.Removed in '63 by the band manager because he thought Ian didn't fit the band image.He was kept as pianist and road manager for twenty years.Played with others,including Led Zeppelin which gave us the iconic jam Boogie With Stu,with him.

I use Ian as Exhibit A when people try to say the Beatles were far too image-conscious in their early years while the Stones were somehow authentic, rebellious bad boys.

What a sad pic. All because of "image". Sadly, a lot of todays "musician/singers" is all about image and less about talent. If Janis Joplin were to show up today...she wouldn't even get an honorable mention...but oh boy, Brittany Spears still is in contention. A different kind of talent I guess. Golly I'm getting old and crotchety.

I will disagree. Although "image" is very important today it has been in the past as well; Kiss and Alice Cooper were certainly very image conscious. Further, to dismiss Britney Spears as being image over talent is not correct; she is a great singer (as is Lady Gaga and Katy Perry). It may be true that the balance between image and talent/ability has shifted but not by as much as you may think.

Totally understand where you coming from and I agree that anything up on stage needs to be conscience of image. As I said, I'm getting old and crotchety. However, I do think Lady Gaga has loads of talent and enjoy some of her recordings. Gaga worked very hard through lots of adversity to get where she's at. It wasn't handed to her based on her "looks". Though I'm one of the very few of my friends that thinks she's hot.
