my life-long old NYC obsession is thx to this band. few US vintage hard n heavy Rock bands could boast a ferociousness the likes of Brooklyn's DUST. they took from all the best at the time, mostly the British Invasion - Progressive UK bands to put their unique American stamp on rowdy rock and become one of the nearest misses in R&R history. all 4 members, including their mentor / collaborator / Mgr., Kenny Kerner, went on to much higher glories alongside the biggest names in the biz, yet without years of struggle pushing their trio any future successes would have been far less probable. for me as a So. Cal squid into used record bins there was rarely a moment as stunning as staring at the debut DUST LP with 3 vacant skulls glaring back, and then maybe worse (better!) the 3 band members on the back cover looking at me pretty much the same lol I tended to judge a band's unknown potential by their album covers, and there was no putting down a DUST album until the music was over. I was that guy who turned everybody onto the good stuff they'd never heard, and DUST was in that rare air elevation like Budgie or Captain Beyond, who also went under most radar ...as did a thousand other very worthy groups of the era, but nobody has a story quite like these humble organic-based street kids. they done good, then done great. Richie Produced KISS etc. then retired his weary ears, Kenny backed Dylan and has been a Yardbird for a decade, Marc became Marky and made the RnRHoF.
