Depends on how elaborate you want to get. They work fine, and you can record a layer, then record a second layer and remove the second layer and add a different second layer and remove that new second layer, etc. It's probably a good way to start in order to decide if you like looping. I got both of mine for $75 each on either eBay or Reverb. Then I got an RC-300, which requires at least a master's degree if not a PhD to be able to make maximum use of it. But I still have a Ditto on each pedalboard.

The RC-300 is intimidating in appearance but super easy to use because of its quantization. I find mine easier to use than all the previous versions. If you can find the 1, you can use the RC-300. The Ditto is very easy to use but comes up short in extended features by comparison.
