Double Bass Corelli and gut

Has anybody out there ever combined Corelli E & A strings with their D & G gut. I've been told that the corellis are very easy on the hands and low tension. Seems like that would make for a good match.

They're quite bright though, at least the 370 series (tungsten).
If I was to try that, I'd get the 380M E&A, those are the warmest and likely to give the best match.
The 380 series is using nickel as the outer wrap, with a more traditional construction.

For a very short while 370 tungsten ( if my memory serves ), tension match is good. Corellis had a pretty metallic quality in their sound, but that could be tamed with time and playing. They have also some complexity in their pizz tone, which serves guts well.

No I think he uses some kind of Corelli under gut dg. I looked it up when he played at snug harbor Mingus night in town. Didn't get to ask Him

i have 370 under gut on a bass and they work great. the 370 are not bright at all. but they are also pretty old. the tension and tone fit the gut well in my opinion

The 370F are not as bright as the 370M. The tension is just right in my opinion, compared to the 370M and 370TX. That being said, I'm using Spirocore Weich E and A with Obligato Solo (in regular tuning) D and G on my plywood and having great success. My EUB wears Corelli 380M and they are decent for that bass and not expensive.

The 380 M might work well under D & G gut.
What O do not like about the 380 M is that tension feel of the higher string is larger than on the lower ones, but that might a good reason to use guts above E an A.

Thanks for your video...I've been thinking of getting an olive G to put on with the Corelli 370 M set I bought...I've got old Corelli's on my bass right now, but kinda wanting to try something different for the G string with my next string change.

Maybe a low tension gut string. Never tried Corelli though
