CORRECT CAB VOLUME

Looking to replace a speaker in a peavey 115 tvx, would a kappalite 3015 work in this cab?

Is it vented, between 1.8 and 5.1 cu ft?

The TVX's come in around a gigantic 5 cubic feet. I'd put a 3015LF in there myself and cut another hole for a closed back midrange. Looks like an Alpha 8MRA would work

can't find spec on cubic feet, guess i,ll have to take out spreaker and measure,goin off external measurements its 7.04

that would be nice but i actually thought about a horn and 4wire connector to use the tweeter amp on my GK 700rbii, don't think midrange speaker would work for that,or would it? This cab is always used with an avatar 210

The tweeter amp on the 700 rb II is crossed at 5khz. If you're running with a 210, no huge need for a mid driver The cab would work really well standalone though, with an Alpha 8MRA midrange and a 3015LF. It's huge and would do very well with a 3015LF.

The 8MRA provides as much mids as most 2x10s out there

so its crossed over at 5khz,so would that work for the midrange driver or not? Sorry not much on the freq knowlege but i can build it and wire it if it would work, be nice to use that cab alone at times thats why i was going to put the horn in it.

No. Definitely not. A horn at 5khz wouldn't do hardly anything noticeable with a 3015Lf either. You'd want to cross over much lower, probably around 500-800hz. The Alpha 8MRA would probably do fine in that neighborhood too. You'd need to purchase or wire up a crossover though.

Thanks I'll check into it. If looks like too much trouble just skip and keep using with the 210. I was hoping the 3015 would work in that cab, think it would go good with emminece 10s

Yeah, the cab is a bit on the large side for a 3015, assuming the measurements of the one I found online are the same as yours.

A Kappa Pro-15A works up to 6.5 cu.ft....but it's not a neodymium driver.

It's 3.2mm Xmax gives it only a quarter the displacement limited power capability of the 3015.

IIRC, it will be easier to drive the driver past xmax, but I have no idea why.

You'll get less power into it before it begins to fart out, but with a 3015LF, there isn't much fear of that. Simplistic analogy, but think of how long a bass speaker would last in an open backed guitar cab......

Weak midbass, and it's not so good for a weak back either.

i looked on peaveys site and no cab volume spec or spec on rec cab volume for the originl speaker. thought that may tell me something about cab size.

compare other driver cab designs and you'll see the words "displacement limited to" quite a bit more often... Interesting stuff, at least to geeks like me.
