Cort is really a great brand for basses. people bash them because they think they are cheap, but i've been using an action v for the past year and it hasn't failed me yet. i'd go for it . in a heartbeat.
I owned one for a while, and its a fantastic bass. From build quality, playability, sound, and comfort. I'm kicking myself everyday for getting rid of it..
From what I have heard (and I haven't verified this so if it is wrong don't hurt me) Cort makes Ibanez's import stuff. Indeed, Cort has a bass that is rather awkwardly similar to the SR500 for around the same same price (a little cheaper). Well, if that's all true, then I've been playing a Cort for a few years now. I have zero complaints about the quality of my SR500.
If someone can confirm whether Cort makes Ibanez's import basses, that would be swell and make my post rather more relevant if it is true.

I agree with the posts here, it's a very playable bass that is modestly priced. I can understand why people like to have expensive boutique basses, because there's nothing like it (my absolute favorite bass is one), but there's also nothing wrong with having a reliable bass that doesn't cost thousands of dollars (I have a few of those).
I have a Cort B4, swamp ash, wenge/maple 5 pc. neck, rosewood fretboard. Pretty solid and stable bass, stays in tune for ages, I adjusted the truss rod just once in three years when I put Fender flats on it. Very comfortable to play with its smooth unfinished neck. Very quiet electronics, note it has active/passive switch but it needs a battery to operate even in passive mode (battery lasts very long though).
Soundwise, you have what you expect from a two humbucker configuration. Selection of strings (flats or rounds) can go a long way in achieving the tone you want.

I had a B5 for years... The weak point IMO was the stock preamp. I switched it for an aguilar OBP-1 and it improved the sound a lot.
Mine had an all wenge neck + fretboard and a "walnut color stained" body. The headstock was the older style who looked 90% like an Ibanez.
The pickups were the older Mighty Mite.
GAS made me get rid of it.... ahh regrets.....

I identify the name with "CHEAP" however I know I am wrong. I kinda wish they would change their name to shed their lower standard they wee common for in their early days. 
They were never terrible just the name Cort reminds me of Hot Wheels or Matel toys for some reason

I had a B4, sold it to my dad when I got a USA Std P bass. Would have loved to keep it, its tone was amazing and the neck very playable.
Sucks to have gotten rid of it, but glad its still in the family.

To add to my earlier post, looking at the B4, it is essentially an SR500 with the mahogany body, and a slightly different neck and body shape. I say go for it.
