with 2K worth of price disparity I'd try the Cort, 10 to 1 it fits the bill.

How is the Brute priced? $500-$800 range? I used mine for its comfort factor playing 45-minute gospel-blues sets where I moved quite a bit. The Brute's neck is inset deeply into the body, reducing left hand reach while retaining a 34" scale length. It's not always about weight and I give the Brute's ergonomics a nod over traditional bass geometry.
