Corvette or Thumb?

I have a wenge neck Corvette FNA and I'm lovin it! I've owned 2 Thumb Boltons. One with a full wenge neck and the other had ovankol. I prefered the FNA to the both of them. If you're gonna get a Warwick, do yourself a favour and get one with a full wenge neck.

Are you talking about old used ones or a specila order? if its a special order, how much do they charge for it?

(Gee maybe I will get a Proline 6 in Ocean blue after all - I couldnt find any lefty 6ers on ebay Germany and at any other used market, but if even the new ones can be had with a wenge neck, then I'll jump for it! ...

I believe the full wenge neck is only an option on customs. It is not an option on the standard pricelist.

I find the body shape on the Thumbs to be very uncomftorable to play.

Well I am biased but Thumb's have always been one of my favourite basses - but I agree it's hard to find a good one. I have tried loads since I boutght mine 13 years ago and the workmandship, as in creating a characterful instrument - that really stands out, IMO, is sadly lacking in some models - mine is still a beauty as the range of tones I can get from is are almost limitless:

the only major criticism I have is that the front pickup is definitely louder than the back one - which means I really have to crank my amp for a fingerstyle tone - saying that though if I use both pickups at once - the sound is huge!

Well, the Streamer LX has maplegrowl, not bubingagrowl - that is a bit different. Also, the Streamer LX is out of production... But can still be had on the used market

I chose an FNA over a thumb bolton and a streamer LX. Either way you go they are all great sounding basses.

i own a 1994 thumb bo 4 and i'm very happy with it (except for the neckdiving). somebody once suggested drilling another hole to get a better balance, i shot him.

i bought a good stephi strap and it solved it more or less.
never played a corvette(don't really want to either) before so i can't comment on that.

I have never had any problems with the balance of my bass - which considering the length of it is suprising - but it's a well balanced bass

maybe if u play it high it's not an issue. with me it's a bit above my waist. too high looks a bit... to me.

yeah I can see that might be a problem - my bass is about waiste height so it sits nicely - the times I have slung it low it still balances well - but it's a through neck not a bolt-on if that makes any difference?

Agree with MUTANTBASSIST, streamer LX all the way man but out of the two, the corvette,
I like the mapleness of it, like my LX5 streamer....

Another vote for the corvette. I found the Corvette standard, although a heavier bass, to balance perfectly. Also the pickup placement produced a nice variety of tones. It was my main bass for 6-7 years, always received compliments on the tone and looks. The only reason I sold it was to upgrade to a Streamer LX 5 string. I've played the Thumb Bolt On on several occasions and I found that to be just as nice but with the obvious differences. I did notice the neck dive (more of a leveling) a bit but I found it to be minor. I feel as though the whole issue of dive is a bit exaggerated but not having owned one for a time, I may be wrong. Regarding tone, the Thumb seemed to have more of a unique individual tone (even whith different pickup blends), whereas the Corvette seemed to dial in more variety. I feel as though it will come down to which bass gives you the best tone for you.

I vote Corvette. I've played both Thumbs and 'vettes, including the elusive Bleached Blonde Thumb 4 and 5, and nothing sounded as nice as the 'vette IMO. I also like the swamp ash corvette, sounded really nice and didn't weigh too much either.

Having owned a Thumb and played Corvettes before, I'd vote for the Corvette.. Cheaper, better balanced and (to me) sound better.
