I want to keep my kid's bass in the front room with all the rest of the instruments, on a stand of some kind, but my EUB already occupies the best DB corner. Could a cello stand work for a fractional DB?
Depends on the fractional size, could work for a 1/16, a 1/10 or a 1/8. For 1/4 size double bass or bigger, the bass probably will be to big for the stand. For a 1/4 or 1/2 bass a stand for a regular bass is a better bet. Since there are differences in the stands and I don't know, which stand exactly you have planned, that is just a guess...
The Ingles adjustable cello/bass stand can handle both. I've used it on my 3/4 upright bass with my endpin extended about 10" and it was sturdy enough. if you're asking about a cello stand that you already own, your mileage will definitely vary depending on the dimensions of the stand.
