You guys ever hear Don Ellis's big band............ Columbia records Live at the Fillmore..... (check it out ) They play in 11/4, 13/4 and 33/8. Different day in the neighbor hood.

Back to reality, Learn songs people like. Yes all the top 40 songs thay are boring and you never want to hear again. The masses love them.

When I was in 7th grade I had my first band I'm a drummer, Clarinet and drums. Apparently we were so advanced the band director looked at our songs and wrote bass charts out and got the best bass player in high school ( he was a senior)
to come and play songs with us.

They stopped band concerts and had us perform...... It continued throught High School.........

If you get other voxes, why not, this sounds very good.

But seriously dude, new singers. Fast. I don't care how much they practice, they'll need time to become great at it if they sound like this now.

Thank you for the advice on this. The instrumentalists in the band have been talking about getting some different singers now that we are not required to play with them(they were in our class). You've helped me decide to look for different ones. What do you think would be the ideal number of singers for a band? I have 2 in mind

No need to hurry and boot any singers here IMO. At least the females sing IMO much better than most people that age that I've heard. I don't know what you hear in those voices that I don't, but to find much better singers than these, that are in their age, would not be an easy task. It takes years of stage experience for even talented singers to become great singers. Singing lessons in combination with the experience gigs give will make them great. Or actually, stage presence matters a lot too. They need to be able to connect with the audience. How are they performing now in that aspect? Many times, it's better to have an average singer that knows how to handle an audience, than a top singer that's not able to do that.

Hey Gabe.......keep something in mind here........take all this stuff with a grain of salt. Allthough you are new to all of this......it is your creativity and talent that has put you where you and your band members where they are now. Take all of this T-Bass forum stuff in moderation.......The opinions are going to be all across the board.

You dont need to ditch singers or players right away......maybe they need to be in a different range, maybe they are a few steps away from making the next leap in voice control and confidence.....or maybe in the end, they are not a good fit.

You guys are 15 years old and under!!! Unbelievable!

Don't listen to anyone who tells you to dump singers or anyone else. There is obviously room for improvement, but you're only 15 years old! Anyone who thinks you won't constantly improve doesn't know what they are talking about.

Just keep doing what you're doing and play music you love. In a very short time you will all have surpassed what 90% of the people criticizing you can do.

I'm extremely impressed with the skill level of everyone in your band .... not only are the players all talented but the band has a really nice groove

The singers are not bad, especially considering their age. The band sounds like a good, cohesive group as is, and IMO there would be no reason to rush out for replacements .... take a little time and see how things develop.

I was quick on the trigger, but really, that guy's voice is not on par with the band. The female will probably work if she gets good tutoring.

And the reason it might be sounding be is because the guy was ridiculously off-pitch. When she was on her own, it didn't sound half-bad (after listening to the clip again).

No one in the band has a PA- is it at all possible to gig without one, or are we out of luck without getting one?

Renting is perhaps a possibility if the venue don't have a PA. However it wouldn't hurt to start building up an own one, if you have the desire to start gigging and common goals with the band.

A way to start could be to arrange a larger sized "kick-off concert", to which you invite all friends and relatives. To rent a PA and venue will probably cost you something, so don't be modest with the entrance fee. Have also food and drinks for sale. The goal would be to get some start-up cash for a PA.

Split the money you earn on the concert evenly, and then have the band members to contribute with buying one piece to the PA. Shared ownership may work, but a lot of people here advice against it because it easily induces problems if a member quits or get fired. It did work for my first band, though.

Start with a decent mixer with 8-16 mic channels, a couple of active mains, subs and monitors. Or find a used PA, active or passive. Be smart, buy enough watts directly and aim for a flexible, expandable system. A low-budget active PA speaker can for instance be used as a monitor later if you want to upgrade to some higher quality mains.

Renting or buying a PA will probably cost you more than a summer's worth of gigs. Unless you plan to keep on playing for money as a group, it may not be worth while unless you are able to borrow one a few times over the summer.

If you just run vocals, you can make it with a smaller PA than if you mike everything.

You guys sound really good. As some others have said, i think the one thing that could be better is the main vocals. But very nice, good to see people doing zappa!
