Country 5-String Recommendations

I'm trying to decide on a good 5 string bass to buy, I play country and gospel, I really like the SR505 but it just doesn't sound right for my tone, I'm sure with enough eq it could but I think I need a P/J setup. All I've really found in my price range is a Yamaha BB425X and a Schecter Diamond P-5. My price is anywhere between $500-750 although I plan on buying used for under $500. I've played Fenders and I have to say their value is lacking compared to other foreign made guitars. Any help on these basses or new suggestions are appreciated.

G&L L2500 or Peavey USA Millennium if you like narrower spacing
Brubaker Brute or MTD Artist or Heir if you like wider spacing

A new or used tribute G&L L2500 should be with in your budget and people who own them say they are the most versatile basses. Try and find one of them to play.

Definitely can't discount the G&L tribute 2500's nice instruments for the scratch.

Play anything you like and e.q. it to match the style. I play country and use Ricks, a Heartfield, Ibanez, Gibson, Waterstone 12 string, Lightwave...the list goes on. Nearly anything can be made to fit the style you play.

Not sure why Fender, a company that probably enjoys the best resale value would be lacking. Fender JJ (MIM) on the used market can be had for $350-$400 and you will always be able to get that back out of it when you decide to upgrade. Just my two cents.

That Yamaha is a very good bass , great traditional tone but will cut well too . I'd think it would work fine for country . A used Sterling 5 would do the Music Man thing if they relly work well for country and would be in your price range . I just saw Charlie Daniels last night and his bass player had a Lakland 5502 , a bit out of your price range but sounded good for that music .

You might be able to find a Roscoe Beck 5-string for a decent price. Killer P and J tones, lots of versatility with that bass. Solid construction too.
